Sun Vixen Swimwear is an online designer swimwear company that distributes luxury swimsuits and accessories. It is a Canadian Startup based in Vancouver, British Columbia.
It was founded in 2017 when owner, Opal Hurteau, was on vacation in Hawaii. After walking into a boutique swimwear store and seeing all the best brands and luxurious bikinis, she wondered why there wasn’t anything like this in Canada.
My role: Marketing Coordinator and Ghost Writer
The Project: For this contract position at Sun Vixen Swimwear, I work as the Marketing Coordinator. In my role, I do a variety of tasks such as writing blogs and updating product descriptions. I perform SEO and keyword research to ensure the blogs will rank high for a particular keyword. In addition, I also film weekly videos to post on Instagram to help with customer engagement.
Obstacles: Sun Vixen Swimwear is an e-commerce store to buy luxury swimwear online. My previous experience hadn’t given me the opportunity to work with designer brands so I had a lot to learn. From the vocabulary used, to creating scenes for product descriptions that highlight the benefits to users. It's a learning curve that I am still trying to overcome.
Method to achieve goal: With the help and guidance of my team, I learnt the proper techniques to improve. I've started to read articles posted by Vogue and Glamour to pick up on lingo. I then place myself in the ambiance I would like to portray for the description.
What I learned: There’s a lot of work that goes into helpful product descriptions even though it might seem so trivial. From setting the scene, emphasizing the benefits, adding proper meta descriptions, vivd alt texts for images, intriguing titles etcetera.
You can read some of the blogs I’ve written for them here.
